Okay, so maybe not cringe- but there are definitely some outfits that that cause me to wonder, "What were they thinking when they designed that?" How about you? Which dresses do you wish they'd made instead?
I really do not like Kirsten's midsummer outfit, Nellie's holiday dress, and Samantha's bridesmaid's dress. Sam's bridesmaid dress in particular makes me cringe.

What were they thinking when AG made the red vinyl AGoT Meet outfit?

American Girl has come out with some very ugly outfits in the past. The ones that make me cringe are Samantha's bridesmaid dress--it has a cheap Halloween costume look to it--, Kirsten's midsummer dress, Felicity's new tea dress--very, VERY gaudy--, Samantha's lawn party outfit--it makes her look like she's wearing a pillow case!--, Molly's cowboy outfit, and that horrendous sparkly, paisly AGOT dress...there are more out of the AGOT line that I hate, but I just can't think of them... The bridesmaid dress is one item I wouldn't buy if it was the last thing I needed to give Samantha her entire collection. Why didn't they make it like the movie's dress, which was gorgeous AND more historically accurate?
And Taffy - I agree - that red vinyl jumper was/is pretty horrible too - although I love the tights that came with that outfit. The jumper must have no "curb appeal" whatsoever; I've noticed that dolls wearing it seem to go for a tad less on eBay.

I agree that I didn't like Samantha's bridesmaid dress but Kayli wanted it really bad so I bought it for her. I thought it would be cheap looking but it really isn't. I actually like it now. I love my Molly but I don't care for some of her tomboyish outfits like the after school outfit and the aviater outfit.

I got my AGoT when she was wearing that red vinyl outfit. ECK. I keep all of my outfits labeled by name in little plastic baggies. My hubsand noticed yesterday that the AGoT baggies were labeled "Red Culottes" "Girl Scout" and "Ugly" so I completley share that point of view. She has never been back in the outfit.
I also really didn't like the first Today girl outfit, which is why I didn't get her then. To much going on.

I completely agree about Samantha's bridesmaid outfit! (Although it doesn't look quite as bad when you see it.) Why did AG have to change it? The movie version was so much nicer.
I must be the only person on the board that actually likes the red vinyl AGT outfit! I think the dolls look adorable in this outfit. Maybe it's because I had a red vinyl jumper in 1970!
Ashley'sMommy - Molly's after school outfit is actually so much cuter when you see it. She looks adorable in it and so does Kit. My daughter had put Kit in this outfit with her winter beret - she looks very Katharine Hepburn! We've also used the khakis from the
Aviator outfit with Kit's Meet twin set - also very Hepburn.
Something else that bugs me is the direction that Mattel seems to be taking with the new Meet outfits. When Nellie came out, I thought her Meet dress was a bit too fancy. It seems that the original Meet dresses had all been more casual -more of a school dress than a party dress. Elizabeth's is the same way and the change in Felicity's meet outfit is another indicator. I don't dislike the new Meet outfits, I would just prefer that less formal dresses were used.

I really like this topic...
I can't even look at Kirsten's Midsummer Dress without my eyes going buggy. If she looked cute in it that would be one thing, but she loosk like a cheap Heidi to me.
When I look at Samantha's Bridesmaid Dress online I hate it, but when I saw it in person it wasn't so bad. I want Sam's entire collection so I am thinking of caving in and buying it.
There are a couple AGOT outifits that I wonder "what were they thinking?," but some of the outfits were in fashion when they came out, especially the first AGOT, it was very "Blossom" (for all of you that remember that show)

Wow, I am totally in the minority here, lol. I absolutely LOVE Samantha's bridesmaid dress! I love it because it's sooooooooooo ugly. It's exactly the stereotype of a bridesmaid dress! The first time my mom saw it she said, "Ahh! It's so ugly, it's cute!" As far as the red vinyl dress goes, I loved that too! My mom wouldn't buy it for me, she said it was "trampy." But I loooooved it. For Kirsten's midsummer dress, I don't like it for HER but I like the dress. In fact I just bought it for my AGOT21-Grace. The only outfit I've ever truly disliked is Nellie's spring party dress. That thing is an atrocity. It looks just like a dress I was forced to wear for Easter when I was six. It doesn't look the slightest bit Victorian to me, it looks late 80's-early 90's. Yuck. Everything else, is fine by me.
